MY FIRST POST!

I've been building this blogging engine for a little while, now.

It's funny: when I decided I wanted to take on this project, I stepped back and thought about what it would really take to complete it.

"A couple weekends", I said to myself. "Nothing more than that".

And sure enough, after just a couple weekends' worth of work, I had a working platform. But it didn't feel finished, to me. It felt lacking in features; it didn't seem to have that "flair" that I was expecting out of it. Now, I know - this site isn't all that flashy but it's to my liking. And believe me: the back-end stuff is truly glorious. There are still some bugs to work out (nothing major or hackable) but by and large, it's pretty solid.

This project quickly went from "side project/blog engine" to "BLOG PLATFORM".

In a week's time (every day after work), I ended up building a fully functional plugin architecture. It supports PHP pluings and JavaScript plugins (standalone). Of course, a user can also generate tandem plugins - with both JS and PHP resources. In fact, I have one such thing in the works.

I'm no designer by any means (this site makes that plenty obvious, I think). I've written a plugin that will alert visitors to this site of whether or not I'm broadcasting on UStream. However, I can't decide how it should look.

In any case, I've spent many hours developing the software used on this site and thanks to my love for development (and my slight lack of modesty), I foresee many more hours spent on this project - making it better, more robust, and certainly more feature-rich.
